Phonics is where letters start making noise. From Week 18 the packets add a steady drumbeat: beginning-sound pages (match the picture to the letter it starts with) and short-vowel word work, nine progressive rounds of each. In the final third of the year, every letter returns with its own word page - Aa words, Bb words - building a first reading vocabulary.
